PEP - History-background
History & Background of this program:
Un-Employability has been an issue not these days but since last 3 decades. Experts use to give reasons of Recession, Slackness in business, low demand, low per capita income etc. If someone takes the data of the number of employment avenues in different sectors, you would come to know that industries be it manufacturing or services has grown. The quantity requirement of manpower has always been increased. Hence there should be a reason for un-employability.
In the year 2001, founder of this group (Mr.Shailesh Thakkar) did some subjective survey of 200 people who use to appear for an interview for various positions at his companies where he served for 21 years, over a period of time and came out with startling observation and conclusion:
- Graduates / Engineers/MBAs even toppers were not having any real life exposure or even could not reply logically on implementation of the studied concepts. No relevance of Grades.
- Many those who were in position to relate studied concept could not present it in a sequence. They were very weak in communicating in English.
- Their reading habit and knowledge of the world or business was as good as zero.
- Many who could score well in written test was highly nervous and non-confident when interacting personally.
He decided to enter into skilling via opting for an academic role and simultaneously developing modules which could answer to all those skill related issues mainly:
- Mastering Spoken English.
- Soft Skills which can generate Self Confidence.
- Facing an Interviews/Group Discussion.
- Industry Knowledge
- Salary Negotiations
Two philosophies developed:
- Getting job is and Art as well as Science.
- Skills are more important than the grades.
A module initially was named as HOW TO GET A JOB – which was a one day workshop.

Lot of updating was done in the modules based initial experiences:
- The need for taking personal mock interview was solicited
- Grooming on English was necessities.
The Module was changed to PLACMENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
The first session of 75 hours of PEP was undertaken at GRIMS COLLEGE VAPI in the year 2009.
Why the name PLACEMENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM?
As most of the programs were undertaken at colleges and invitation was given by the TPOs of the colleges to improve their placement performance, the module was focused for placements.
By the year 2017 the program became very much popular and was implemented at least at 100 Colleges of Gujarat. In order that students in general can take the benefit, an idea was floated by the team of having it at neutral venue. Baroda Management Association was the first idea and after redesigning the modules contact with various colleges and the use of social media was done and the first batch of 20 was undertaken at Baroda management Association.
Why the name PROFESSIONAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM?
The day we started PEP at neutral venue, there were many candidates who were employed and who wanted to switch over started opting for this program. The module was accordingly redesigned to cover issues of working executives like:
- How to get promotion?
- How to get increment?
- How and when to leave current job?
- Concept of Career Charting
This was named as Position Empowerment Program
There were enquiry from many Senior Executives to have a personal guidance on Job Change and handling Mid-Career Crisis. this has been named as Pioneer Dome Empowerment Program or Progress Empowerment Program.
Together all this fall under POSITION EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
